Steve Mason's Article in the Serpentine MuseWe had our first meeting today of the newly-constituted Crew of the Barque LONE STAR. Our meeting location was (and will continue to be) the BlackFinn American Saloon in Addison. The folks at the restaurant couldn’t have been more gracious hosts for the club. About twelve folks made the meeting, and I think a good time was had by all. Don Hobbs offered the toast to Queen Victoria and then gave a brief history of the Crew, back to its initial founding in 1973-1974. Steve Mason led the discussion about our story of the month, “The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter” and then updated all of us on Sherlockian happenings around the country, including 221B Con, A Gathering of Southern Sherlockians in Chattanooga, the Minnesota Conference in August, and Les Klinger’s lawsuit against the Conan Doyle estate. I gave a brief photo essay on my recent trip to London and an even quicker overview of the rules of rugby. Stu Nelan offered the toast to Sherlock Holmes to end the proceedings, but not before he made sure to mention the recent publication of Steve Mason’s article titled, “What Would You Keep?” in the current issue of The Serpentine Muse, the quarterly journal of the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes (the article is pictured above).  In and amongst all this, we had a wonderful lunch. Really looking forward to next month, when we’ll be rebooting the order in which we read the stories by beginning, well, at the beginning. We’ll start anew with the Baring-Gould order of the stories, which means we’ll start with “The Adventure of the ‘Gloria Scott’.”
